Patron: St. Martin De Porres

Saint Martin de Porres, born in Lima in 1579, is a luminous witness to humility, charity, and racial reconciliation in the life of the Church. He was the son of a Spanish father and a mother of African descent, and he experienced poverty and discrimination from an early age. As a youth, he learned practical medical skills and later sought admission to the Dominican community in Lima. Because of social prejudices of his time, he began in lowly service roles, but his holiness and perseverance transformed hearts and opened a path to full religious profession as a Dominican brother. Martin devoted himself to the sick, poor, and abandoned with remarkable tenderness. He cared for people regardless of social status and became known for combining prayer with practical compassion. Historical accounts remember him for organizing aid, caring for the infirmary, feeding the hungry, and supporting children and marginalized families. His sanctity was never detached from daily suffering around him. He saw Christ in those who were ignored and demonstrated that authentic holiness is inseparable from mercy. He is also remembered as a saint of peace and fraternity. In a society marked by divisions of race and class, Martin's life became a living sign that the Gospel breaks down barriers. His humility did not weaken him; it made him spiritually strong and pastorally effective. He is often invoked as patron of social justice, interracial harmony, and caregivers. For communities under his patronage, Saint Martin de Porres offers a clear mission: welcome the excluded, heal wounds of inequality, and serve with joy. He teaches that prayer must bear fruit in action and that the Church's credibility grows when mercy is concrete. His witness calls believers to build communities where dignity is protected, charity is organized, and no person is treated as invisible. In honoring Saint Martin, the parish embraces a spirituality of service that is compassionate, courageous, and deeply evangelical.
